About the event

How do we sonify memories? In this workshop, sound practitioner Olivia Melkonian and counter archival researcher Rim Irscheid (King’s College London) invite participants to discuss modes of alternative archiving that includes family histories, sentimental objects, oral storytelling and found materials. Centering this workshop not about the silences and absences from the archives but the personal archives and memories already present in the home, the workshop focuses on the imagination of objects, subjects and stories as critical archival practice. After discussing ideas around archival imagination and counter archival practices with participants, Olivia and Rim will lead an accessible, practical exercise that focuses on how these memories, stories and experiences can be documented, preserved and archived through sound.
